Sports Tank Returns with Expanded Next Gen Arena Competition & EXPENSES-PAID TRIP to NYC

Pitch to Strategic Venture Capitalists and World Class Sports & Entertainment Executives

November 20, 2017, New York, NY. – TPG Sports Group will host the fourth annual Sports Tank event on May 1-3, 2018 in New York City. This event provides startups in the sports and entertainment space with the opportunity to pitch their company to strategic venture capitalists and world-class sports industry executives. In 2017, over 275 companies applied for Sports Tank from 22 different countries.

Each company at Sports Tank has three minutes to pitch and 10 minutes to negotiate with investors and the sports advisory panel. The insight given by both the investment panel as well as the advisory panel during these meaningful discussions has established Sports Tank as the premiere event for entrepreneurs within the sports industry.

“Sports Tank separates itself from others in the industry based on the unique combination of sports industry executives and sports specific venture investors – all together in one event. The Next Gen Arena is also becoming the place to be for early stage sports tech companies. I’m proud to be part of Sports Tank and look forward to the event each year to learn about the latest sports innovations,” said Brian Kopp, Founder at Stretch 4 Advisory.

In addition to Sports Tank, TPG Sports Group has expanded the Next Gen Arena which will be hosted the day prior to Sports Tank. This opportunity gives early stage startups the ability to present their businesses privately to venture capitalists, sports executives, as well as many special guests in the sports industry. Two of the Next Gen Arena startups will be awarded the opportunity to pitch their business live, onstage at Sports Tank.

“Last year FanWide participated in the Sports Tank’s Next Gen Arena, and we had the opportunity to meet dozens of sports technology investors and influencers,” said Symon Perriman, President & Founder, FanWide. “It was one of the most worthwhile events that we have participated in, we are now in discussions about the possibility of an investment with Sports Tank sponsor, the football co., and were invited to Germany to pitch in the leAD sports accelerator.”

The deadline to apply for Sports Tank is March 10, 2018. TPG Sports Group will then review each application and select five finalists to pitch at Sports Tank. Those five will be invited to New York City, all-expenses-paid, to pitch their business at Sports Tank.

Past investment panels have shown representation from Hickory VC, Rosecliff Ventures, Courtside Ventures, and Full Stack Ventures. The Sports Tank advisory panel has included Tom Shine (XIX Entertainment), Samita Mannapperuma (NBC Sports Group), Kevin Pritchard (Indiana Pacers), and Lesley Eccles (FanDuel), among others.

November 2016

New York, NY. – November 15, 2016: On April 11th, 2017, TPG Sports Group will be hosting the third annual Sports Tank in New York City. 10 sports-specific startup companies will have the opportunity to pitch their business models in front of strategic venture capitalists, along with world-class sports industry executives.

Building off of a successful event in 2016 that saw seven companies engage in investment and partnership negotiations, Sports Tank moves to New York City in 2017. Sports Tank has also added two strategic advisors for 2017 – Duncan Niederauer (former CEO of NYSE & Founding Partner of the Mountain Top Advisory Group) and Guy Adami (CNBC’s “Fast Money”)

Participating companies will have the opportunity to receive the funding and partnerships they need to accelerate the growth of their business. Additionally, each of the 10 selected companies will be provided with an all-expenses-paid trip (hotel and airfare) to New York City to pitch at Sports Tank.

“We’re excited to be back at Sports Tank after making an investment and building countless relationships,” says Jake Ireland, CEO & Founder of Ireland Ventures. “Sports Tank allows us to leverage our network and help these companies grow globally. There’s no event like it out there.”

In addition to our panel of investors, a world-class sports advisory panel is on hand for strategic partnerships. Past advisors have included Kevin Pritchard (GM, Indiana Pacers), Brian Kopp (President of North America, Catapult Sports), and Megan Hughes Allison (VP of Client Services, Genesco Sports Enterprises). Providing real-time feedback and potential partnership opportunities, combined with strategic investors, makes Sports Tank a “can’t miss” opportunity for entrepreneurs in the sports industry.

“Sports Tank was a perfect opportunity to not only raise capital, but to raise capital with strategic partners,” says Andrew Menter, CEO of Physmodo, and a 2016 Sports Tank Alumni. “We ultimately came to terms with one of the VCs and someone on the sports advisory panel. And since we’ve raised capital, TPG Sports Group has been incredibly helpful opening their vast network. I recommend Sports Tank to any company seeking truly strategic growth capital.”

“Sports Tank” Update

Sports Tank–the new event from TPG Sports Group–officially launched in December and the applications from sports startups are already rolling in. Sports Tank is an innovative event that is taking place on March 26, 2015 in Charlotte, NC. Sports Tank will consist of startups pitching their products or ideas to a panel of reputable investors for a chance at striking a deal.

What makes Sports Tank so innovative, however, is that it will consist solely of sports startups and will also feature a special Sports Advisory Board. This means that on top of the panel of ten investors that the 15 startups will pitch to, there will also be a panel of five sports executives watching the presentations. This special panel will be on hand to answer any questions that the companies have and offer advice to them as well. The investors, startups and sports executives will have free reign to get creative with their deals, so smart investors might include these executives in some of their deals as well. This innovative concept adds an entertaining twist to an already exciting event and will surely be beneficial to many of the sports startups.

Beside the investors and sports executives, there will be media on hand to cover the event as well. This will create an added outlet for each startup to gain more publicity moving forward.

This unique experience could drastically help the final 15 startups chosen to attend and will be a must-see event. March 26th is going to be a special night and Sports Tank will set the standard for future events.
